The Community Health Worker is One of the Fastest-growing Occupations
HealthTeamWorks Community Health Worker Professional Skills training equips both new and experienced Community Health Workers (CHWs), as well as other frontline professionals, with the skills needed to advance community health and drive meaningful impact.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the CHW workforce is projected to grow by 14% from 2022 to 2032—a rate much faster than the average for all occupations. An estimated 8,000 CHW job openings are expected each year over the next decade, highlighting the critical and growing need for well-trained professionals in this field.
What is a Community Health Worker?
A Community Health Worker is an umbrella term, as this role is as diverse as the communities, sites, and responsibilities this profession assumes. CHWs focus on improving individual and community health, and health access. They forge connections where people live, learn, work, worship, and heal—from the inner city to rural communities.
What Roles Do CHWs Play In the Workplace?
Specific roles vary but may include:
- Cultural mediation among individuals, communities, and health and social service programs
- Culturally appropriate health education and information
- Care Coordination, case management, and system navigation
- Coaching and social care support
- Advocacy for individuals and communities
- Capacity building for individuals and communities
- Direct service and education
- Individual and community assessments
- Community outreach and program enrollment
- Evaluation and research
HealthTeamWorks Offers Training and Accreditation
CHW Professional Skills Training:
- The training is delivered through five pre-recorded modules, available on-demand for learners to access at their convenience. In addition to the recorded content, learners are expected to complete quizzes and assignments, and participate in four live, virtual discussion sessions.
Accreditation:
- Successful completion of the CHW Professional Skills Training earns a non-credit certificate from the Des Moines Area Community College, and a competency certificate from HealthTeamWorks.
